Dennis DeZarn , English Teacher.
From where I sit, I couldn't ask for a better recruitment experience.
Korean Horizon's, and Alistair Wery in particular, have been there every step of the way. From our first conversation when I was still back in the english speaking world, to the day I arrived at my new job, and up to the time that I am writing this letter, they've helped make my transition truly a smooth one, and any small problems that I have had along the way they have helped me sort out with no hesitation on their part at all. This is a great gig as well. When I first heard about the opportunity to teach in Korea it sounded too good to be true. I had friends and relatives tell me that they expected to hear about me having my organs harvested for the black market, but it has been nothing but plus signs. The money you can make here in Korea is ridiculiously more than you can make anywhere else on the english teaching circuit, and this country only gets more interesting the longer you are here. You just have to keep an open mind and have a sense of humor.
Sure, it's not for everyone, but it is definately for me. I get to work with little kids. They give me candy and hugs and more candy. I don't work more than 25 hrs a week, and when I do, it's never more than 30, and then the overtime pay kicks in. Plus I get to eat authentic Korean food all the time. Whatever anyone tells you, know this, Korean food is great, everything but the kim chi, but that's just a side dish, one of about 7 or 8 that they serve you along with your meal. And if you like shopping, this is one country you should experience. It's quite a trip walking through the marketplaces and finding things you never expect to see down an alley. All in all, I am so glad that I chose to take the chance and fly half-way around the world to teach english to little kids. It is an experience that I will never want to let go of, and the friends that I have made in just a short time I know will be my friends forever.
warmly,
Dennis DeZarn
